    Default beardies with mites?!?!?!

my beardies have what i think are mites (ive only ever seen the red ones these are black) but what i would llike to know is what i can put in the bottom of the viv till i get rid of the mites as right now they have sand

freddy the ig had just plain kitchen roll in the bottom (he actually still has cause the mites were in his bark) but is it safe for the beardies?

i seem to have the worst luck with things like this lol

thanks for all your help in advance :)

see i don't know as i am pretty new to rep's so i can't be sure but they are tiny black things that have taken to hiding under the little creases at there mouths that what made me think it was mites

also i use mite off as i got that when freddy had mites and it worked really well

Paper towel is good as its white and you can see them more easy on this. Mites are a parasite feeding on the blood of reptiles, though never really heard of beardies getting them more usually snakes. I would try squashing one on the paper towel in seeing if the have any blood they may have fed on. If they do its a problem as should be treated, otherwise its the substrate ones you can get with wood bark.

Kitchen paper is the best option and keep the viv as basic as possible just one thing for the beardie to climb on.

Everything else you have in the viv must be binned or steralised with boiling water etc and left out the tank until the mites are away.
You must also steralise the whole tank as much as possible.

May I ask what kind of substrate you were using ? As you normally only get bites and bugs from the dark woodbark stuff. All the others are pretty much steralised.

I would also bath your beardie every day for a little bit as mites drown in water (this will help to at least get some off)

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Don't be so sure, stay vigilant and keep the bathing up, there will eggs that the mites have laid that will hatch and return to the host (your beardie) to feed before laying again. Keep up what you are doing and break the cycle before being certain.

hahaha! if that was the cause i would be fine with it but he hasn't had mites in over a month now i've been mega vigilint with it lol

someone told me it could be cause my female dog was in heat as he started getting vicious around the time she started "flaunting it" to our male dog lol
