    Default Help needed with beardies?

    Hey everyone,

    well we have two beardies

both are about 6-7 months old, so we have had a look and both seem to be male.

they seem to live ok, with the big one doing lots of head nodding, and the smaller one waving.

yet when we handle the wee one then put him back in he seems to do a slight nod, leading to the bigger one doing it very violently till the smaller one waves.

should we handle the smaller one less, to go with the way the bigger one is more dominant? or handle them both equally?

    any help would be great,

    Adam

im not an expert at all like but i would be extra careful if you think they are both males coz it could be that theyre getting more territorial with their ages. like i say wait and see what some of the more experienced keepers on here think but from what ive read up on you might want to consider separating them in case they start fighting. (feel free to correct me if im wrong too lol). Hopes this helps even a wee bit :)

thb i would seperate them. unless they are both female.

as if 2 males they could (some dont but most do) get really teritoral and may fight each other.
if they are male and female, and about 7 months oldif the male does catch the female and she becomes gravid, she will be to young, have higher chances of gettin egg bound ect, and if she does lay eggs at that age u are takin yrs of the end of her life ( i am not critisizin ect as we have unfortunaly been in that situatation and our female bd breed to early with our male and, she did full 4 full clutches of the 1 matin ( so about 100 eggs) and that has took alot out of her and we dont plan on breeding her again,).

it is easy enought to sex ur bd'su wount have to take them to the shop, if u put a photo on the site u will get told no probs.

for takin the photo i would hold ur bd and lift his tail up (sort of bendin it back) (carefull not to far as u dont want to hurt them) and take a photo, of its underside, u are wanting the baseof the tail bit as it depends ifs 1 or 2 bumps if its male/female. i will see if i can find u a photo of each to help

Head bobbing and waving is a good sign, would def be two males if they were puffing beards up and biting each other. Two males can live together if they have done so for a while with no female present, but if a female is introduced they will start fighting.

The communication involving head bobbing and waving, can mean a few things eg head bobbing can be to display agression or dominance and the waving is submission. A bobbing is a male can also do it to try to attact a female and the waving is a female "flirting". LOL

only one is puffing out his beard and making it go black,

had a look at their bits earlier (i asked them politely first)

Kinky (the big one) is definitely a male,

whilst Runner (the smaller one) seems to be female, but its not as distinct as kinky's masculinity.

will try and get some pics up over the weekend.
