    Question Weird kingsnake

My old kingsnake which i rehomed for someone last year acts so weird at times.

Was feeding great on small rats when first got her, she would sometimes go off her food for a few weeks at a time. Ex gave me some mice along with some rats and she did eat them but think he pawned them off on me to get rid of them am sure lol

Anyways she ended going off the rats, she would freak when you put a rat in an wiggled it around. Acted like I stuck a bloody sausage in front of her!!! She would hiss and back away.

Managed to get her back onto rats just recently by feeding her a couple of live pinkies. Fed her a couple of freshly killed fuzzies and all went well. Tried to feed her a defrosted small rat last week and she freaked again. So I wiggled my young kingsnakes defrost fuzzy at her and she had it.

What the hell is going on with her???? I think she's got mental problems Click here to enlarge

Oh dear, she does sound rather fussy!!! I think it is unfortunately a case of playing with what she will eat!! I have a couple of snakes that change their preferences regularly and they are a pain.

Perhaps she likes to be in control!!!! Although she does sound scared of her food. Could she have been bitten in the past I wonder?

Good luck and at least she is eating something

i agree it sounds like she is afraid of anything that is the same size or bigger than her... what you might have to do is feed her two fuzzies (if that is an equivalent to one small rat) so she is getting the same amount of food needed... my corn did that for a while... i have to leave it in there for him to find... if i hold it he will not take it at all and "run for his life"... lol

hi perthie just a question but are you defrosting the rats along with something else (maybe scenting the rats) if not try washing the rat with water then scent it with mice see what happens

I was defrosting the rats on their own and then i did try the old scenting trick but nothing seems to fool her lol

You's may well be right about having been bitten, she has got a couple of old scars on her body.

She may well have eaten for the first while when she came to me because she might well have been starving, she was a bit underweight when I first got her.

I will prob just feed her more smaller stuff then and try her with a bigger one every so often to see if she will take it.
