    Exclamation Tortoise Hatching

A friend has a few eggs in the process of hatching and was wondering how he can raise them e.g. after the hatch do they eat the egg and yolk, or go straight onto solids etc.
A guide to rearing them would be dearly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    David

after the hatch u have to wait a couple of days and then feed them on the proper veggies, ie the ones suitable for that species

    Hi David,

Thanks for your help, the first egg has hatched and the young tortoise (Hermans) has got a yolk sack from it's plastron - we have put it in a shallow tub inside the incubator as to allow it to absorb do you know how long this process shall take?

    Thanks,

    David

it will take 4-5 days if it's quite big.
I never had a problem with hermans hatching with yolk sack, cause I use to incubate the eggs in boxes filled with soil, and the hatchlings emerge only when the yolk is full reabsorbed

Thanks for the advice and support - just to recap: after a few days of living in the incubator his/her yolk sack should have been absorbed and my friend can put the tortoise in a small vivarium and feed him/her regularly with plenty of vitamins.

    Thanks,
    David

don't give him/her too much vitamins.
the important is a good UV light (5% is enough) at the right distance from the tortoise and calcium +D3, plus plenty of veggies.
